Assistant coach Eric Black will take charge of Sunderland for Sunday's Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers following the firing of Steve Bruce.
Martin O'Neill is expected to take over on a permanent basis as a replacement for Bruce, who was fired on Wednesday. O'Neill, the former Aston Villa and Celtic manager, is reportedly in talks with Sunderland.
The club released a statement Friday saying ''Sunderland's quest to fill the vacant managerial position is in full flow,'' adding that Black will handle the job in the meantime.
Sunderland is fifth from the bottom in the standings after losing 2-1 last weekend to Wigan, which started the match in last place.
