Belgium draws 1-1 with Greece in friendly

Ten-man Belgium drew 1-1 with Greece in a warmup on Wednesday for the European Championship.
Both teams displayed defensive lapses amid heavy rainfall, with Greece forward Dimitris Salpigidis scoring with an easy finish in the ninth minute after a disastrous back pass from Nicolas Lombaerts.
The Belgians leveled through a diving header from Nacer Chadli in the 32nd minute that beat goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis, who was on debut.
Lombaerts was sent off in the 62nd minute for a heavy tackle on Soktratis Papastathopoulos.
''There were long spells in the game that I wasn't happy with,'' Greece coach Fernando Santos said. ''We had a good opening 15 minutes, but after that we failed to keep the Belgians in check and gave them the initiative.
''We should have done something when Belgium was left with 10 ... The Belgians are tough and it's good to have tough opponents in these games. But there's many things we need to fix.''
The early goal gave Belgium an increase in confidence. A skillful pass from Eden Hazard left Thomas Vermaelen with just Karnezis to beat in the 36th minute, but the Arsenal defender fired wide.
Belgian coach Georges Leekens put on striker Romelu Lukaku in the second half but was soon forced to change plans when Lombaerts was sent off.
The disappointing Greeks had few chances but could have gone ahead in the 71st minute when Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet had to leap to hold a deflected cross from Costas Fortounis.
Greece captain Costas Katsouranis shot wide in the 79th minute, in a rare chance for the hosts.
Euro 2012 will run from June 8 to July 1 in Poland and Ukraine. Belgium failed to reach the event, while 2004 champion Greece plays co-host Poland, Russia and the Czech Republic.
