Football superstar David Beckham has showed a flair for diplomacy in dealing with a question about Australia's chances of hosting the 2022 World Cup.
Beckham faced the question when he arrived in Australia with the L.A. Galaxy on Wednesday for a friendly against A-League side Newcastle Jets.
Realizing an endorsement of Australia's bid might not go down well with rival bidders, the former England captain said "it's the biggest sport event in the world, something that every country wants to host but who gets it, we'll see."
Australia is vying with the United States, Qatar, Japan and South Korea to host the 2022 Cup. FIFA's executive committee will decide the venues for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments at a meeting in Zurich next week.
