Referee Mike Jones won't work a Premier League game this weekend after he mistakenly awarded a goal on a shot that deflected into the net off a beach ball. Several former Premier League referees criticized Jones after he allowed Darren Bent's fifth-minute goal for Sunderland in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool on Saturday. The ball deflected off a red beach ball that had been thrown onto the field by a Liverpool fan. Under the rules, he should have disallowed the goal. Jones will work a second-tier League Championship game between Peterborough and Scunthorpe on Saturday.
