Bayern's Badstuber out for season after injuring hamstring vs. Porto

MUNICH --
Bayern Munich says central defender Holger Badstuber will be out for the season after injuring his hamstring in the 6-1 Champions League victory over Porto.
Badstuber tore a muscle in his left thigh and will have surgery in Vail, Colorado.
The defender will be out between three and four months, meaning he will miss the end of the season as Bayern seeks to repeat its 2013 treble, when it won the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League.
Badstuber missed nearly two years with successive knee injuries before returning at the start of the season. He tore a tendon in his thigh in the third round and was sidelined for another five months before making a comeback at the start of the second half of the season.
"Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed at the moment," Badstuber said on Bayern's official club website. "I know everything will be done for me at FC Bayern so I can come back as an important part of the team."
"We're so sorry for Holger. He worked so hard towards his latest comeback â and now this," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a released statement. "But we've come to know and value Holger as a fighter. He'll never allow himself to become discouraged even by this new injury. He knows how important he is to us. That will spur him on during the sports rehabilitation phase and help him recover fitness as quickly as possible."
