Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness says his club will fight "to the bitter end" for compensation from the Dutch FA over Arjen Robben's injury.
He received treatment from a specialist in Holland who got him fit to play a decisive role for the Oranjes in South Africa, but Bayern claim the rushed treatment had put the player's long-term health at risk only to enable him to play in the short term for the national team.
The injury flared up again following Robben's return to pre-season training after the World Cup and he has been ruled out until December by Bayern's doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, who is convinced that the original injury from June was never correctly treated.
Bayern are therefore demanding the Dutch FA (KNVB) take over payment of the midfielder's wages until he is fit to play again.
"If they don't show any willingness to compromise, then I believe we are going to have to sue them to the bitter end," said Hoeness to Antenne Bayern radio.
"I personally think that we have got to take this all the way to ensure that this loss, which has arisen due to pure negligence, is recovered."
