Bayern Munich announced Sunday that it has signed winger Franck Ribery to a new five-year contract.

The German club said in a statement posted on its website that the extension will keep the France international at the club until 2015.

The contract was signed on Saturday ahead of the Champions League final against Inter Milan in Madrid. Inter won the match 2-0.

Ribery missed the final because of suspension.

Honorary Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer said the winger's presence could have made a difference in the outcome.

"We had a few moments at the start of the second half but that was not enough. They made fewer mistakes. We missed Ribery everywhere," Beckenbauer said.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added that "we are very happy to have agreed on the contract's extension with one of the world's best soccer players."

Ribery, who has been at the club since 2007, said he is happy to stay with Bayern Munich, which "has become a grand family for me."

The statement did not disclose financial details and Bayern was not immediately available for comment.

Ribery arrived in Munich in 2007 from France's Olympique Marseille on a ?25 million ($30 million) transfer.

In the past month, there had been much speculation on the 27-year-old winger's future, and he was rumored to be in talks with different European teams.
