Basel has signed defender Ivan Ivanov from Partizan Belgrade to reinforce what the Swiss club hopes will be a Champions League group stage campaign.
Basel says it signed the 25-year-old Bulgaria international on a three-year contract.
The deal went through after Basel advanced to the Champions League playoff round on Tuesday and Partizan was eliminated.
Champions League player registration rules allow Ivanov to represent a second club in the competition from the group stage onward. The draw for the playoffs is Friday.

Basel needed an experienced defender after Austria international Aleksandar Dragovic joined Dynamo Kiev last month.
