Swiss champion Basel says it has sold Argentine forward Raul Bobadilla to Bundesliga club Augsburg, three weeks after suspending him for speeding in his Maserati car.

Bobadilla leaves as Basel is trying to reach the Champions League group stage. It faces Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria next week in a playoff first-leg match.

Last month, club president Bernhard Heusler said Basel ''can't tolerate such behavior'' after Bobadilla was caught speeding at 111 kilometers per hour (69 mph) through a 50 kph (31 mph) zone.

Basel then left Bobadilla behind when it played a Champions League qualifying match at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Basel says the 26-year-old player has signed a three-year contract with Augsburg. The fee wasn't disclosed.

Bobadilla signed a contract through June 2017 when he joined Basel in January.
