Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios will leave the Bundesliga after this season to sign for Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.

Dortmund confirmed the move on their website on Wednesday morning. The 27-year-old has signed a four-year contract with his new employers after an undisclosed fee was agreed.

Barrios said: "I want to thank the fans for their great support during the past three years. I will never forget my time at Borussia Dortmund and will always cherish it."

The Paraguay international joined Dortmund in 2009 from Chilean side Colo Colo and has helped them to back-to-back Bundesliga titles.

He has lost his regular place in their first team this season due to the emergence of Robert Lewandowski, but scored a hat-trick in Saturday's 5-2 win at Kaiserslautern.

Chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild.de: "This is Lucas' decision. He wanted to begin a new adventure and we must allow him that.

"We have always dealt fairly with each other. It is clear that he wants to play regularly. He had great years here and we are indebted to him."
