Baggies ace Jara pens new deal

The 24-year-old, who played in all four of Chile's fixtures at the World Cup, has committed himself to the Baggies to the summer of 2013. The deal also contains a further 12-month option in the club's favour. Jara has been a big success since arriving from Colo Colo in a bargain £1.4million transfer a year ago. He follows in the footsteps of Graham Dorrans, Chris Brunt and Youssouf Mulumbu in signing new deals this summer. Albion coach Roberto Di Matteo said: "Gonzo fully deserves this new contract. "He has proved an excellent acquisition and played a big part in our promotion success last season before his unfortunate injury. "He is a total professional, has a terrific attitude and his versatility is a real asset to the squad. "Gonzo has all the attributes needed to play in the Premier League and I believe he has a big role to play this season within the framework of the team." Jara performed at right-back, left-back, centre-half and across the midfield last season before suffering a broken metatarsal in February's FA Cup tie at Reading. He battled back to fitness in time for the World Cup and played a major role in Chile reaching the round of 16.
