Aberdeen extended their unbeaten run under new manager Derek McInnes to four matches, with a goalless draw at St Mirren.

The Dons have failed to win away from home in 2013, although they came close to three points at St Mirren Park, with a disallowed goal from Jonny Hayes and Marc McAusland making a superb clearance off the line to deny Scott Vernon.

The Saints were saved from relegation just days earlier by their opponents after Aberdeen's draw with Dundee sent the Dens Park side back to the First Division and secured St Mirren's survival.

The first real attempt on goal came from Vernon on the 17th minute with a curling shot that he fired just beyond Craig Samson's left post, following an impressive run from Ryan Jack.

The Saints retaliated soon after with a terrific shot from Dougie Imrie, but the visitors were denied the lead as Jamie Langfield tipped the ball to safety.

Joe Shaughnessy had the best attempt of the first half when Niall McGinn's corner found him eight yards out, but Samson saved the centre-back's header.

McInnes' side seemed certain to score after the break but failed to convert their chances.

A ball delivered deep into the box by Hayes followed by a commanding header from Vernon was cleared off the line by Marc McAusland.

The Dons continued to press, and in the 64th minute, Jack struck a Vernon header towards the goal from close range but the shot narrowly edged wide of Samson's goal.

Hayes thought he had put Aberdeen ahead soon after but the goal was ruled out for offside, as the game ended all square in Paisley.

Inverness squandered the chance to secure a European spot after crashing to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Dundee United.

A win for Terry Butcher's side would have secured third place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and the final Europa League berth.

But Aaron Doran's opener was cancelled out by Ryan Dow, before Gary Mackay-Steven struck in injury time to hand United their first post-split win.

The result means the race for Europe goes to the wire, with Inverness, St Johnstone and Ross County still in contention as it stands ahead of County's game against Motherwell on Sunday.

Kilmarnock gained revenge over relegated Dundee for denying them a top-six place as they prevailed 3-2.

Kilmarnock struck three times in Tayside through Rory McKenzie, Chris Johnston and Sammy Clingan to secure vengeance for their wrecked top-six ambitions.

Ryan Conroy had cancelled out McKenzie's fourth-minute opener within a quarter of an hour of that early breakthrough but Killie stretched in front again before Mark Stewart added a late consolation for the hosts eight minutes from time.

Aberdeen extended their unbeaten run under new manager Derek McInnes to four matches but their goalless draw at St Mirren was a largely forgettable way to mark the 30th anniversary of their greatest triumph.

Three decades ago to the day, Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen side beat Real Madrid in Gothenburg to win the European Cup Winners' Cup.
