Leaders of Australia's World Cup bid would compensate rival sports if their stadiums were used for football's most prestigious tournament in 2018 or 2022.

Hosting the World Cup would require Australian Football League, National Rugby League and Super 14 rugby union teams to vacate major venues in the middle of their seasons for a month.

Officials from Football Federation Australia and the three other football codes joined the country's sports minister at a meeting Tuesday to resolve the dispute, and FFA agreed "on the principles of compensation."

England, Japan, Russia, United States and Spain-Portugal and Netherlands-Belgium are also bidding to host the tournament in 2018 or 2022. Indonesia, Qatar and South Korea are in the 2022 race.
