Australia to host Yemen in 2-match Oly qualifiers

FIFA has confirmed that Australia will host both matches in an Olympic qualifying series against Yemen this month due to unrest in the Middle East nation.

Football Federation Australia issued a statement Monday saying the second-round preliminary stage Asian qualifiers would be played at Gosford and Newcastle, both north of Sydney, on June 19 and 23.

The FFA was advised by Australia's government not to travel to Yemen due to serious political unrest and violence. Australia offered to host both legs and Yemen accepted, with FIFA subsequently ratifying that arrangement.

The winner of the two-leg series will advance to the next stage of Asian qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics.
