Atletico Madrid continued to play poorly in losing to Levante 2-0 in the Spanish league on Saturday.

Atletico has lost three straight games, including 3-2 midweek defeat at home to Aris Salonika in the Europa league.

After Victoriano ''Nano'' Rivas scored the third-minute opener on Saturday, Levante outplayed the visitors with striker Felipe Caicedo creating constant danger and sealing the win in the 59th.

The win provisionally lifted Levante to 15th place, four points clear of the relegation zone, while Atletico remained seventh.

Later, league leader Barcelona visits Osasuna looking to maintain its two-point lead over Real Madrid, which receives fifth-place Valencia.

Levante went ahead early when Atletico goalkeeper David de Gea failed to clear a corner from his area and Levante midfielder Xavier Torres arched a pass to an unmarked Nano who headed home at the right post.

Levante had two great chances to double its advantage before the 25-minute mark.

Atletico defender Luis Perea dived to deflect a shot by Caicedo in the 18th after the Levante striker had separated from his defender near the penalty spot, and De Gea made a reflex save to keep out Ruben Suarez's 24-minute strike from inside the six-yard box.

A lethargic Atletico was unable to threaten Levante's goal until the closing moments of the first half when Diego Forlan saw his left-footed volley from the left edge of the area deflected over the crossbar by goalkeeper Manuel Reina.

De Gea bettered Caicedo, on loan from Manchester City this season, in a one-on-one situation in the 49th, rushing out to reduce the angle and stretching to block with his right leg.

But ten minutes later Caicedo scored his fifth goal of the season lifting a beautiful first-touch shot into the left-corner of the goal.

De Gea denied Levante's third in injury time when he blocked Gorka Larrea's ground shot.

On Sunday's it's: Almeria vs. Zaragoza; Espanyol vs. Sporting Gijon; Malaga vs. Racing Santander; Real Sociedad vs. Athletic Club; and Villarreal vs. Sevilla.

Deportivo La Coruna plays Hercules on Monday to close round 14.
