Aston Villa v Norwich reaction

McLeish believes the Villa ace will have "caught the eye" of England head coach Fabio Capello with his recent performances. Agbonlahor scored once and set up a double for Darren Bent in Villa's win over Norwich. McLeish confirmed Agbonlahor had been named in Capello's provisional squad for the forthcoming internationals with Spain and Sweden. He believes Agbonlahor would frighten any defence on his current form. McLeish said: "In that kind of form, Gabby has got to have caught the eye (of Capello). "Benty has already established himself and scored some goals for England. "But Gabby has got to take confidence from the way he has been playing and the expectation levels are now on him to deliver in every game. "That is what you expect of a top player. He is still young and has been really consistent this season. "His performances this season have been exceptional. "He is quick but also got other strings to his bow. He has got good feet, can beat a man in a short space, and was clever with his goal." Agbonlahor's hopes of being chosen in the squad for England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro last month were dashed because of a back injury. But McLeish confirmed: "Gabby is in the provisional squad. He is available for selection this time if Fabio chooses. "On his form today he would frighten any defence." The Scot was full of praise for the way Villa recovered from conceding an early goal to an Anthony Pilkington free-kick. He said: "We looked like a team that could score goals today. There was some terrific forward play but Norwich gave us one hell of a game. "It was a very open game. We showed great character and resilience to bounce back from going behind." Norwich boss Paul Lambert lamented his side's defending, particularly for Villa's second goal from Agbonlahor after seizing onto a Leon Barnett back pass. He said: "The good thing about us is we don't stop, we keep going, but we can't give goals away like that. "We get a foothold in the game at 1-1 and lose a silly goal just after half-time. "The ball should have gone into row Z of the stand. It puts you on the back foot and then you are down to 3-1. "We came to try and win and the first goal was a world-class goal. But Villa are a very good side especially here with the crowd they've got. "We got a lifeline with the second goal (from Steve Morison) but you can't give away goals like that every week and expect to keep bouncing back."
