Assurances for Rovers boss Kean

Blackburn co-owner Venkatesh Rao has assured under-pressure boss Steve Kean that his job is safe.

The Rovers manager has come in for criticism after overseeing an alarming slump in form at Ewood Park.

Since penning a two-and-a-half-year deal in January, Kean has led his side to just one Premier League victory.

Four draws and five defeats have been suffered in their last nine fixtures, meaning Blackburn now sit just a point above the relegation zone.

Such form is always going to see pressure mount on a coach's shoulders, but Rao insists that Kean remains the right man for the job.

He said: "Kean's job is definitely safe. I can say 100 per cent that, as far as I'm concerned, he will still be our manager next season.

"We have confidence in him, and our players. We like him and we trust him. He will stay."

The Venky's consortium seized power at Ewood Park in November 2010, purchasing the club for £23million.

They insist they remain fully committed to the club, despite seeing their reign get off to a less than auspicious start.

Rao added: "We are involved for the long term, and I can assure supporters that we care about the long-term future of the club.

"We've only owned Rovers for five months. We have made some changes and there are other things to do.

"It will take more time yet, but all I'd ask our fans is to see where we are after we've been here for a year."
