Arteta calls for improvement

Arteta scored a stoppage-time winner from the penalty spot to seal a 1-0 victory after Rovers had msised two spot-kicks of their own earlier in the half. Despite the win, which gave Everton their first three points of the season, Arteta was disappointed with the Toffees' standard of play. "The only positive we can take is that we took all three points, the performance wasn't good enough," Arteta told Everton's official website. "We conceded too many chances to the opposition and we were lucky to win the game. "We knew it was going to be a physical game and most of the afternoon we couldn't handle the pressure." Saturday's victory at Blackburn came on the back of a 3-1 Carling Cup triumph at home to Sheffield United in midweek. Arteta knows the importance of making a strong start to the campaign, with eight top-flight teams still without a league win this season. "We needed the points, we know how important it is to get points early on in the season," explained Arteta. "We haven't been able to do that in the last few seasons and so it takes a bit of pressure off, it's two games in a row winning and we can take that positively. "We've got a break now, two weeks with no football because of internationals but we must build on this and see how it goes."
