Argentinian outfit Arsenal eliminated compatriots Estudiantes to reach the Copa Sudamericana's round of 16.

Estudiantes won the second leg 1-0 but bowed out 2-1 on aggregate as Arsenal set up a clash against Paraguayan giant Olimpia.

Estudiantes needed to score two goals to take the tie to penalties but found it difficult to beat Arsenal goalkeeper Cristian Campestrini.

It did make the breakthrough in the 62nd minute when Matias Sanchez turned in Juan Veron's shot.

However, the home side's chances ended when midfielder Mariano Gonzalez was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Ivan Marcone.

Campestrini said afterwards: "We knew it was going to be very tough.

"Most of their men used to play in Europe but we offered our heart and our skin on the field and finally qualified."

Estudiantes defender Leandro Desabato added on Fox Sports: "Arsenal's performance in the first game was decisive.

"We changed our attitude on the field tonight and won - but it was not enough."
