Ameobi was instrumental as the Magpies routed Steve Bruce's men 5-1 at St James' Park on Sunday, notching a brace along with Kevin Nolan's superb hat-trick. The victory came on the back of a turbulent week for boss Hughton, who had been tipped to become the Premier League's first managerial casualty following a disappointing run of results. However, Sunday's win sees Newcastle climb into seventh in the table, and Ameobi feels it should be enough to silence any doubters of the Toon boss. "That win goes to Chris," said Ameobi in the Daily Express. "It's for all the stick he's been getting over the last week or two. It has been ridiculous. "As players we can't understand it. We're fully behind him and we showed that against Sunderland. He has got our backing. "The speculation is nonsense. We know Chris, we know what has gone on and what he has had to do. We know what he wants to do and now he just needs to be given time to do that. "You can certainly see the fans are fully behind him. "We wanted to go out there for him, for the city and for ourselves. We haven't played well at home and we haven't got the results we would have liked, so it was a win which will galvanise our season. "We knew the importance of the game and we showed that in our performance."
