Altidore: England doesn't scare USA

Hull striker Jozy Altidore believes the United States has nothing to fear from England in the World Cup this summer.

The two countries have been drawn in Group C for the finals in South Africa, along with Slovenia and Algeria, but Altidore insists he and his international team-mates will not be frightened by Fabio Capello's side.

"I'm delighted about the group we've been drawn in," Altidore said. "I think that all of us in the United States agree that we're in a group which will allow us to play our football.

"We'll be up against a world force in England and two quick teams in Slovenia and Algeria and I think these opponents really suit our style of play.

"England don't scare us, on the contrary, we're really looking forward to that match. I think that we're capable of beating anybody on our day and there's no team in the world that can beat us easily.

"We're up to the challenge and the English will realise that when we meet them."

The United States certainly cannot be underestimated after last year's Confederations Cup, where they beat European champions Spain in the semi-final and led Brazil 2-0 in the final before eventually losing 3-2.

Asked what lessons had been learnt from that experience, Altidore added on www.fifa.com: "That anything can happen.

"Nobody expected us to go so far and play such a high standard of football, but it also taught us that we mustn't rest on our laurels.

"We were beating Brazil 2-0, putting in an excellent performance and we felt that we had the win in the bag. Of course, you can't do that against a team of Brazil's calibre and we all know what the final score was.

"But it was a good lesson to learn."
