Jozy Altidore is hoping to put a traumatic month behind him and focus on his football by helping lift Hull out of the relegation zone.
The USA striker has missed the Tigers' last two games after being granted compassionate leave following the earthquake in Haiti.
Altidore's parents both hail from the island and many of his relatives still live there, but the on-loan Villarreal man has returned to the KC Stadium this week after learning his family emerged from the disaster unscathed.
With just one goal this season going into Saturday's clash with Wolves, the 20-year-old is the first to admit boss Phil Brown has yet to see the best of him, but has vowed to give it his all to get the team out of the bottom three.
He told the Daily Star: "It's been a difficult few weeks but I feel like I am better now. My family is all right, thank God, and now I have to make sure I get the most out of my next five months here.
"All I can do is get my head down and get back to thinking about football.
"It's very nice to get back to playing with a clear head and really make the most of my time here.
"It's exciting for me. I don't think we've seen the best of me, I'd be dumb to say otherwise.
"First up we have to focus on a collective improvement and then hopefully individuals will raise their game. We have to be unselfish and play together to stay up.
"I knew what to expect when I came to Hull, it's not an easy place to score 30 goals a season, that's for sure."
Altidore has ambitions of making it into the USA's World Cup squad this summer and knows holding down a regular first-team spot will be vital to achieving that goal.
He added: "You think about the World Cup, of course, it's always going to be in the back of your mind. But to play in the World Cup you have to make sure you're playing regular football.
"No manager is going to put the stake of the country on someone who he feels is out of form.
"It's important that I give everything I can to Hull and hopefully the rest takes care of itself."
