Chile forward Alexis Sanchez is urging Chile officials to provide earthquake relief for his native city.
Some of his Barcelona teammates - including Andres Iniesta, Dani Alves and Cesc Fabregas - backed him up on Twitter on Monday after he voiced his concerns on his Facebook page.
Residents of the northern port city of Tocopilla have staged protests since Thursday.
They demand more doctors at local hospitals, subsidies on electricity bills and extra funds to cover the reconstruction efforts after a powerful 7.7 magnitude quake hit northern Chile in 2007.

Sanchez keeps close ties to the city where he was born and raised and he is known for handing out gifts to the poor when he returns home during the holidays.
