The Baggies, who were promoted from the Championship last term, have made a mockery of pre-season suggestions that they would go straight back down and currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table on the back of Saturday's 2-1 victory at home to Fulham. It is a position that most Baggies fans could only have dreamt about after a humiliating 6-0 opening-day defeat to champions Chelsea. But since then, Roberto Di Matteo's men have flourished, remaining unbeaten at The Hawthorns and taking four points from away trips to Arsenal and Manchester United. And goalkeeper Carson, who has tasted life in the top end of the league during his days with Aston Villa, admits no one could have expected their flying start. "If you exclude the first game of the season, it's been an unbelievable start, something we've only dreamt of," the former England goalkeeper said. "When the pressure has been on we've held our own and put in good performances. "It means more to me than being in the top six with Villa because, no disrespect to this club, Albion are renowned for being up and down. "And people are expecting to see us fighting for our lives. When we saw the league table on the TV in the dressing room it put a smile on the lads' faces." Despite having already visited all of the original 'top four' clubs this season, Carson is refusing to get carried away with West Brom's form and is remaining grounded. "No one expects us to be up there which means there is no extra pressure," he added. "We're still playing as if we are trying to get to the 40-point mark. "But we know the toughest part of the season is still to come. "I think there are 10 or 12 games until January and that's when the league evens itself out. "After that, you've got a good idea how you're going to do." "I hope it's going to carry on like this for the rest of the season. It's probably the best team spirit I've ever been involved in as a player."
