The club's board have stepped down and a separate advisory board is in turmoil after a split, thought to be caused over the appointment of Louis van Gaal as general director, was exacerbated by comments directed at Edgar Davids by Johan Cruyff. Cruyff denied the comments were racist, with fellow advisory board member Davids accepting that explanation while deeming the exchange "unfortunate". With all that going on in the background, assistant boss Bergkamp and youth coach Jonk are trying to keep minds on the pitch. "We always remain focused on football because that is where the whole process started," Jonk told Voetbal International. "Along the way there is all this turmoil that you cannot just stop but we never want to be distracted. "Unfortunately it's part of it this time. Good friends often said to me: 'You must be crazy (going to Ajax), with all that rubbish around you all the time. But then, Ajax is your passion'." Bergkamp, who assists head coach Frank de Boer, added: "Wim and I are not the most outgoing types, we are sober and modest. But if we want to achieve something, then we are really for it. "There have been days where I thought: 'Guys, what is this about?' But the work on the field makes it fun and entertaining. "It allowed us to keep our goal: to develop players, to move Ajax forward."
