Ajaccio snatches late draw versus Caen

Bottom club Ajaccio netted a last-gasp equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw from their home match with Caen.
Ajaccio had taken a 52nd-minute lead through Ilan's penalty but 20 minutes later they found themselves trailing 2-1 and staring at a fifth successive defeat following goals from Caen duo Molla Wague and Lenny Nangis
However, with the game having entered stoppage time, Ajaccio launched a late attack and managed to earn themselves a point when Benjamin Andre fired home their equaliser.
Ajaccio still prop up the standings despite the draw, though, and are still three points adrift of the rest of the division.
Chances were limited in the first half, although both teams created at least one reasonable opportunity to score.
For Caen, Wague's excellent early header drew a full-length diving save out of Thierry Debes while, just before half-time, the visitors went close with a Romain Hamouma volley from the edge of the box that went just wide.
Ajaccio's best opening of the first period saw Frederic Sammaritano test Alexis Thebaux with an effort that the Caen goalkeeper parried away with some difficulty.
The second half proved much more fruitful in terms of goals, with Ajaccio breaking the deadlock just six minutes after the interval from the penalty spot
Andre was fouled inside the area and Ilan drilled the resulting spot-kick into the roof of the net.
At that point Ajaccio were looking at only their second win of the season, but they only enjoyed their lead for 12 minutes before Caen, who had almost gone ahead in the 46th minute when Hamouma's long-range lob just cleared the crossbar, drew level.
Gregory Proment's corner found Pierre-Alain Frau at the near post and his cross-shot was turned in by Wague via a deflection.
Seven minutes after that Caen were ahead. Leyti N'Diaye lost possession to Nangis and he took full advantage to drill a shot past Debes to make it 2-1.
That looked set to be the match-winning strike, but Ajaccio had other ideas and Andre earned them a point when turned near the edge of the area to fire a shot past a surprised Thebaux.
