Ainsworth: I'll give it my best

Wycombe's caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth insists he has received the backing of Gary Waddock following his sacking last weekend.

Ainsworth will take charge of the Chairboys for the first time this weekend when they visit Dagenham aiming to end a six-game winless run.

Waddock's fate was sealed with a 1-0 defeat to managerless AFC Wimbledon last weekend and Ainsworth has vowed to turn around the club's fortunes.

"It's not nice to see someone lose their job, especially when they are your friend as well as your manager," Ainsworth said.

"When he found out, he said to me 'it's your turn Gaz, grab it with both hands'. I don't want to let him or anyone else down, I'm going to give this my best shot and see what comes.

"I'm sure Gary will find another job, but he'll be the first to recognise that we've got to get points on the board, as well as passion, spirit and drive back into this club."
