Agent: No Roma move for Zambrotta

Free agent Gianluca Zambrotta will not sign for Roma as cover for injured Federico Balzaretti, according to the defender's agent.

The 35-year-old former Italy international was released by AC Milan at the end of last season and remains without a club as the new Serie A campaign gets into full swing.

Left-back Balzaretti will spend at least a month on the sidelines after pulling out of the Azzurri squad with a thigh complaint, with reports in Italy suggesting the World Cup winner could be drafted in as cover.

But Zambrotta's agent, Giuseppe Bonetto, has ruled out a move to the Stadio Olimpico for his client.

He told calciomercato.com: "It's not solid information.

"It's useless to ask (Roma director of football Walter) Sabatini or (head coach Zdenek) Zeman for their opinions on Zambrotta, because they will just say that he's a great professional.

"But the player will not be part of Roma's plans.

"I'm not sure how this information got out, I speak with Walter nearly every day and he has confirmed to me that there is no truth in the stories.

"We know that the man is a top professional, even (Francesco) Totti will vouch for that, but there is no need for him there.

"Zambrotta is not going to be part of Roma's project for personal reasons, among other issues."
