A 56th-minute strike from Tim Matavz earned FC Groningen a 1-0 victroy at defending champions AZ Alkmaar, while NAC Breda ran out 2-0 winners over VVV Venlo courtesy of goals from Patrick Zwaanswijk (41) and Anthony Lurling (74).
