Former Scotland coach Craig Brown has been hired as the new manager of Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen.
Brown and assistant Archie Knox were hired on Friday to replace Mark McGhee, who was fired by Aberdeen on Dec. 1 following a poor run of results that has left the club second from bottom in the 12-team league.
Aberdeen said in a statement on its website that ''it's fantastic that they've agreed to come on board.''
Brown quit as manager of SPL rival Motherwell on Thursday after having been approached by Aberdeen. Knox was also previously at Motherwell.

Aberdeen began the season with two straight wins under McGhee but lost 11 of its next 13 matches. The club is level on 10 points with bottom-place Hamilton.
