Millwall chief executive midfielder Andy Ambler is confident Jimmy Abdou will sign a new contract within the next seven days.

Abdou's agent flew in from France to open negotiations last Tuesday and Ambler said initial talks progressed smoothly.

The 28-year-old's current deal expires next summer and the extension will be a major boost to Kenny Jackett, who described him as his "best-ever signing" recently.

"There's no issue or major problem, it's just a normal negotiation and Jimmy wants to commit to staying at the club and we're delighted to try and put together a contract that he's happy with," Ambler told NewsAtDen.

"Discussions have been very amicable and we hope to have it all resolved within the next week.

"Jimmy's focused on playing Burnley and Bristol City at the moment, because we said we'd leave it until after these next two games. We'll revisit it after that."
