2nd-tier Scottish clubs plan breakaway

An ''overwhelming majority'' of second-tier clubs in Scotland want to split from the country's football league and join an expanded Scottish Premier League for next season.
The SPL released a statement saying it has received a letter from clubs ''expressing a desire to be admitted to'' Scotland's top division for the 2013-14 campaign.
The letter will be put before top-tier clubs Tuesday with discussions following ''how best to take forward the game in this country.''
Scotland is looking to restructure its four-division league system to increase competitiveness. Currently, there are three divisions under the SPL that are run by the Scottish Football League.
Rangers, the 54-time Scottish champion which was demoted to the bottom tier last year because of financial mismanagement, will be playing in the third division next season.
