The Austrian football federation has opened proceedings against two unnamed former professional players for their alleged involvement in match-fixing during their pro careers.
The federation says the pair is still active in the amateur ranks and one of them has been suspended with immediate effect, but declines on legal grounds to identify them or release more details about when and where the bribery took place.
As part of an international probe into football corruption, Austria's federal criminal police office has been investigating match-fixing for three years. The office reported to the football federation in July.
The federation's director for legal issues, Thomas Hollerer, says ''after three years of extensive police investigation, the federation can act in just two concrete cases, which shows the difficulty and complexity of the matter.''
