Ziegler, D-backs avoid arbitration

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday they have avoided arbitration and agreed to terms with right-handed relief pitcher Brad Ziegler on a one-year, $1.795 million contract.

Ziegler, 32, limited right-handed hitters to a .188 (28-for-149) average in 2011, seventh-best among all pitchers with at least 160 plate appearances against, and was one of two pitchers to throw at least 50.0 innings and not surrender a home run (along with San Francisco's Javier Lopez).

Since 2008, Ziegler has given up only two home runs and is limiting right-handed batters to a .219 average.

Ziegler combined to go 3-2 with a 2.16 ERA and one save in 66 relief appearances with the A’s and D-backs last season.  He was acquired from the A’s on July 31 for infielder Brandon Allen and left-handed pitcher Jordan Noberto.
