MOSCOW (AP) A promising Russian swimmer has died while attending a training camp in Bulgaria, reportedly after a fall from a balcony.

Fifteen-year-old Maxim Maurer from St. Petersburg, who had recently won a medal at the Russian national youth championships, died Wednesday, Russian Swimming Federation spokeswoman Alexandra Nekrasova told The Associated Press. She added that ''everyone at the federation is shocked.''

Nekrasova said Maurer had been attending a training camp for swimmers from a Russian state-run sports academy and that the federation was waiting for results of an investigation before commenting on how he died.
