Yanks' Nova likely done for season

Baseball's latest victim of a torn ulnar collateral ligament is Yankees SP Ivan Nova, who left Saturday night's game with the injury. Nova will undergo further examination today, but he appears headed for Tommy John surgery that will sideline him for the rest of the season. Vidal Nuno, David Phelps and Adam Warren are the leading candidates to take Nova's rotation slot, and whoever gets it might have value in AL-only leagues.

On to the rest of the news:

Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw thinks he'll be ready to begin a rehab assignment this week, and could come off the DL in about two weeks if all goes well.

Kyle Farnsworth has replaced Jose Valverde as the Mets' closer. Don't expect this to be a long-term solution, but you can still take a shot at Farnsworth if you need a few saves now.

Streaming starters: Tyson Ross was terrific on Friday, Roenis Elias got knocked around on Saturday, and Rick Porcello had a strong game on Sunday, so we're up to 11-9 for the season. Today's pick is Wily Peralta (owned in 8.2 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Padres, while Tuesday's selection is Edinson Volquez (7.7 percent owned) versus the Reds. Let's keep riding the Volquez train for awhile and see what happens.

Reminder: The Red Sox have an 11:05 a.m. ET Patriots' Day game against the Orioles today. Set your lineups early.

In other Red Sox news, OF Shane Victorino and 3B Will Middlebrooks could both be activated this week following rehab assignments, while 1B Mike Napoli is questionable for today after getting hit in the kneecap by a pitch on Sunday.

Cole Hamels is listed as Wednesday's probable starter for the Phillies.

Look for Mike Minor (shoulder) to come off the DL and start for the Braves on Saturday. David Hale figures to lose his rotation slot despite a 2.93 ERA.

The Pirates have acquired 1B Ike Davis from the Mets, and will make him the lefty (meaning busier) half of a first-base platoon. Who wants to bet on a rebirth for Davis, who's owned in 1.5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues?

It sounds like Brewers OF Carlos Gomez might be facing a multi-game suspension for his part in a bench-clearing brawl on Sunday. Gomez says he'll appeal any suspension, so he probably won't miss any time this week.

The Mariners seem to think that Hisashi Iwakuma and Taijuan Walker could be ready to return next week.

Look for White Sox OF Adam Eaton to miss a couple more days with a hamstring strain. 2B Gordon Beckham should be ready to come off the DL this weekend.

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira came off the DL Sunday. He's owned in just 49 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and I think he's being underrated. He's not what he used to be, but I don't think he's done.

Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (quad) thinks he'll be ready to come off the DL on Friday. Teammate Tanner Scheppers is on the DL with an elbow injury, but it doesn't sound too serious.

Luke Gregerson got another save Sunday for the A's; that's his third, so he's the leader of the current committee, at least until (or if?) Jim Johnson gets his job back.

See you back here tomorrow morning.
