Xavier's Semaj Christon announced Friday night that he would forgo his final two years and declare for the NBA Draft.
The sophomore guard was sixth in the Big East in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game. He was also a unanimous first-team selection to the Big East team and was also on the conference's All-Tournament team.
Said coach Chris Mack in a statement: "Semaj is excited to become an NBA player. It's been his dream since he started bouncing a basketball. We wish him well and thank him for all his hard work and dedication to Xavier basketball."
Christon is only the second sophomore in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark as he finishes his career with 1,034 points and 281 assists.
In the latest mock draft projections, NBAdraft.net has Christon going late in the first round and DraftExpress.com has him selected midway through the second.
Combined with the earlier announcement that freshman forward Kamall Richards is transferring, Xavier has 13 players and 12 on scholarship for 2014-15. Even with Christon's departure, Xavier is welcoming a recruiting class that was ranked in the top 20 by most major scouting services.
