Xavier men's basketball schedule includes major New Year's Eve FOX Sports 1 tilt

CINCINNATI - Xavier University announced its 2014-15 men's basketball schedule Tuesday, which includes the potential for 18 regular season games against teams that made postseason play last season. The home schedule is great news for Xavier fans with 11 weekend home games and a New Year's Eve headliner against Georgetown out of the 17 games at Cintas Center.
The impressive television schedule includes national and/or regional coverage for 30 of the 31 regular season games, including 21 games on FOX networks, five on ESPN networks and four on the CBS Sports Network. One additional TV game that is still unannounced is the Dec. 20 game at Auburn with the rights belonging to the SEC Network. That would give XU TV coverage for all 31 regular season games.
Xavier celebrates Opening Night for the 2014-15 season on Friday, Nov. 14 at Cintas Center. The regular season opener against Northern Arizona highlights the Opening Night festivities.
Xavier's 2014-15 BIG EAST Conference opener will be the spotlight game on FOX Sports 1 on New Year's Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 10 p.m. against Georgetown at Cintas Center.
Six of Xavier's possible regular season opponents, including up to nine games, will be played against 2014 NCAA Tournament teams: 2014 BIG EAST Regular Season Champion Villanova (Jan. 14 at VU and Feb. 28 at XU), Creighton (Feb. 4 at XU and March 7 at CU), 2014 BIG EAST Champion Providence (Jan. 22 at PC and Feb. 7 at XU), Western Michigan (potential Wooden Legacy opponent on Nov. 30), Cincinnati (Feb. 18 at UC) and Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 21 at XU). SFA finished 32-3 last season overall, going undefeated in the Southland Conference and winning 29 straight games, including a win over VCU in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
Some other highlights of the non-conference schedule are home games against Alabama on Dec. 6, Murray State on Nov. 24 and Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 28 with road games at Missouri on Dec. 13 and Auburn on Dec. 20. Xavier will play three games in the Wooden Legacy in California over Thanksgiving Weekend beginning with San Diego.
