Stalking the sidelines with a water bottle in one hand, a towel in the other, and a hoarse voice attempting to call out plays, Xavier head coach Chris Mack was still getting settled in his first regular season game as a Division I head coach.

His team made the comfort level easier, however, as the Musketeers rode a stellar defensive effort and a hot shooting night from Brad Redford to an 83-57 win over Youngstown State on Friday night.

The Xavier defense shut down the Penguins early, with Youngstown State not getting a shot on the rim until the three minutes into the game. The Musketeers would go on to hold the Penguins to 32.8 percent shooting on the night, taking advantage of their size and quickness.
