Even though the Cowboys are happy with starter Tony Romo, Dallas' director of player personnel said last week the team would evaluate its quarterback situation leading into the NFL Draft.
The Cowboys front office, Stephen Jones said last week, plans to "do our due diligence."
That would mean at least kicking the tires on the top two quarterbacks, Stanford's Andrew Luck and Baylor's Robert Griffin III.
"You wouldn't see us giving up the ranch for a quarterback right now," Jones told SportsDayDFW.com. "That's not where we are in our progression. And as it sits here today, most people would think RG3 is way out of the question for us."
Jones' father, team owner Jerry Jones, took those thoughts a step further.
The owner was asked last week if he would entertain the idea of trading Romo for the chance to select Luck or Griffin.
"No, I would not," Jones said told the Dallas media last week. "Can you imagine trading . . . a hell of a player right now so that you can get two to three outstanding draft picks so you can be in this draft?"
Don't expect that to end the speculation, Jerry. Remember, your Cowboys didn't need a wide receiver with their first-round pick in 2010 but still traded up to snag Dez Bryant.
