An armed man attempting to to rob customers in Atlanta waiting for the newest LeBron James Nikes was fatally shot by one of the patrons, according to police.
According to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report, authorities responded to the scene at 5:30 a.m., 6 1/2 hours before Wish boutique in the neighborhood of Little Five points was scheduled to open.
Police say a customer in line shot the would-be thief, then got back in line to purchase the $180 shoes.
Neither the name of the shooter or the alleged thief have been released and a representative from Wish was unwilling to speak to FOX Sports South.com about the incident.
Atlanta police officer John Chafee said charges will not be filed against the shooter, who they determined had fired in self-defense.
"He [the shooter] really stood up for all of us," said Taylor White, who told Atlanta's Channel 2 Action News that he was in line when the shooting happened. "I salute the homie that did that."
Nearly 50 customers were said to be in line waiting for the shoes, though there were reports that the store only had 22 pairs of the Nike LeBron X EXT shoes in stock, which sold out in less than two hours.
