Wolves trade round ball for pigskin in loose practice

Word is the attrition-rocked Vikings could use some help under center.

Just don't go anywhere near Minnesota State's Bresnan Arena looking for it this weekend.

In his latest attempt at keeping things loose at training camp, Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders had his players trade in the round ball for a pigskin before practice Friday. There were some on-the-money throws and receptions, including a couple from former high school receiver Corey Brewer, but nothing that screams "this guy chose the wrong sport."

That was especially true for big men Nikola Pekovic and Gorgui Dieng, both of whom grew up in countries where American football is as foreign as a warm Minnesota day in January. Both could take a few lessons in delivery from Robbie Hummel, who based on a few moments of cell phone video appears to have the most fluid delivery of the bunch.

"He's an offensive lineman," Saunders said of Pekovic's quarterbacking skills.

Brewer loses teeth: According to the Wolves' public relations Twitter account, Brewer had two teeth knocked out at practice Friday. He's expected back at practice Saturday.

Pekovic (precautionary reasons) and Glenn Robinson III (leg) were held out of practice Thursday, but both participated in Friday's workout.
