Witten put on the spot by Romo's compliment

IRVING, Texas -- If you want to make Cowboys tight end Jason Witten un-comfortable, just tell him what a great player he is.
That's exactly what his quarterback, Tony Romo, did Wednesday when he said of Witten: "He might be the best Cowboy of all time."
Witten was practically blushing when asked to respond to Romo's comment Thursday.
"'Maybe' he said," Witten said, grinning. "Yeah, I mean, I'm definitely humbled by him saying that, to be mentioned with some of those guys that make this organization the best in the world. But I've got a long way to go to catch those guys."
Witten then rattled off the names Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Bob Lilly and Michael Irvin as some of the all-time greats to wear the Cowboys' star.
Of course, there's always the chance Romo was pranking his longtime tight end so that he would have to compare himself to the Cowboys' all-time greats. But Witten has the numbers to back up Romo's statement, and Witten took it as a compliment from his quarterback and friend.
"I think that just shows the relationship we have, and there's a lot of respect," Witten said. "You do something with somebody so long, you're pulling for them and you want to see them do well. That's the relationship we have. But there's been some great ones and I know I've got a long way to go to even be mentioned with those guys."
