Wings send Marchenko back to Grand Rapids

The Red Wings on Wednesday reassigned defenseman Alexey Marchenko to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Marchenko, 23, has played in 12 games with Detroit this season, scoring two points. His lone goal came on Feb. 28 at Nashville, where he suffered an oblique muscle strain, causing him to miss the last seven games.
A native of Moscow, Russia, Marchenko also has skated in 41 games for the Griffins, contributing two goals among 17 points, with a plus-15 rating.
