The NHL recognized Gustav Nyquist for his torrid scoring pace.

On Monday, the league named Nyquist its No. 1 star for the week.

Nyquist led all players with six goals and tied for the league lead with seven points, helping the Wings collect seven of a possible eight points and move into the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Nyquist scored twice in a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, had a goal and an assist (on Daniel Alfredsson's game-winner in overtime) against the Pittsburgh Penguins, scored the game-winner in Minnesota Saturday and then scored twice in the overtime loss to the Wild Sunday.

"I've been playing with great players so I've (been) getting a lot of opportunities out there to shoot the puck in good areas and getting great passes," Nyquist said Sunday. "So that's the reason behind it and obviously I'm getting good deflections too. I've had some good bounces for some goals, so that's fun to see."

Nyquist has 23 goals and 17 assists in 46 games this season. During his current five-game streak, he has seven goals and one assist.

No player has more than Nyquist's 18 goals in 23 games since Jan. 20.

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was the NHL's second star and Boston Bruins forward the third star for the week.
