Defenseman Jakub Kindl and the Red Wings have agreed to a four-year, $9.6 million deal, according to a team source.
Heading into last season, many in the Red Wings organization thought Kindl, a first-round pick in 2005, was a disappointment; however, he was forced into action because of injuries and became a pleasant surprise.
In 41 games, Kindl, 26, had four goals and nine assists and was an impressive plus-15.
Kindl, 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds, was a restricted free agent. But based on his season and how positive the Red Wings are regarding their young corps of defenseman, getting Kindl signed was on their checklist for this offseason.
