MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota announced Thursday that the school will be making improvements to both Williams Arena, home of the Gophers basketball teams, and Mariucci Arena, home to the men's hockey team.

Both the Dinkytown arenas will be equipped with new LED scoreboards, new ribbon boards and new sound systems that will be installed in time for the 2012-13 seasons. The scoreboards will be built by Daktronics, Inc., the same company that made the LED video screens at Target Field and TCF Bank Stadium. Parsons Electric, a Minnesota company, will be providing the sound systems.

"It was time to make the upgrades at Mariucci and Williams Arenas," said Scott Ellison, Minnesota's associate athletic director for facilities, in a statement. "Golden Gopher fans are not only passionate about the athletic programs but also the facilities. We understand the importance of game presentation as it pertains to each fan's experience and with the addition of state-of-the-art scoreboards, ribbon boards and sound systems at both facilities our staff will be able to further enhance that experience."

The Williams Arena scoreboard will measure 13'8" wide by 11'7" tall. Mariucci Arena's scoreboard will be 14'9" wide by 11'6" tall.
