Wildcats report (11.17): Miller capitalizes on opportunity

TUCSON -- One man's injury is another man's opportunity.
Actually, it took the help of at least two injuries to get more playing time for Arizona sophomore receiver Terrence Miller last Saturday night against USC. Bug Wright (ankle) and David Roberts (concussion) did not play ... and Richard Morrison was just getting back from missing three games because of a shoulder injury.
So in stepped Miller, looking very much like the over-the-middle threat Arizona has been missing for the past two seasons. The sophomore caught seven passes for 116 yards.
He entered the game with seven catches for 54 yards.
"I have always been very confident. I'm a confident person," said Miller, who won't turn 19 until January. "I have just been waiting for my chance, and when I get my chance, I'm going to try to make the best of it. I feel like that's what I did."
Miller plays an inside receiver spot in the spread offense, technically stepping in for Roberts at the team's "big" slot position. At 6-feet-4 and 225 pounds, Miller is significantly bigger than the 6-0 Roberts.
"He's a big target out there, and he really caught the ball over the middle well," said coach Mike Stoops. "That was good to see for a guy who hasn't played much."
Roberts and Wright are expected back for the Nov. 26 game at top-ranked Oregon, so Miller could fall back in the rotation despite his breakout game.
"We're constantly rotating the receivers and Terrence got hot, and that was good to see," Stoops said. "He'll be an option, like the rest of our receivers."
Miller is an intriguing option because his size gives the Cats a different look (it hasn't escaped the notice of UA fans that tight end Rob Gronkowski, who caught three touchdown passes for the New England Patriots on Sunday, could have been a senior at UA this year).
"You never know," Miller said of playing a bigger role the rest of the season.
"I'm going to keep going out to practice and work hard every day and we'll see from there. Our coaches are pretty smart. Whatever they do is the best decision for the team. I'm rolling with it."
Backup quarterback Matt Scott and running back Nic Grigsby should be back for the game at Oregon, Stoops said Tuesday.
Scott has missed two games because of a injury to his right wrist after more than capably filling in for two games when Nick Foles was out with a knee injury. Scott's return would give the coaching staff the flexibility to change the look of the offense with a running threat at offense.
Grigsby suffered a sprained ankle against UCLA on Oct. 30 and has only one carry in the past two-and-a-half games. Grigsby, who was sharing time with Keola Antolin in the backfield, is the team's best big-play threat at tailback.
