Wildcats ranked 3rd entering NCAA track

The University of Arizona men's track team has moved up to No. 3 heading into this week's NCAA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The UA women are ranked No. 10 heading into the championship, which runs from Wednesday through Saturday.
The men's team qualified eight athletes for the event, led by sophomore Lawi Lalang in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters, senior Stephen Sambu in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and junior Nick Ross in the high jump and triple jump. Other qualifiers are junior James Eichberger (800), junior Edgar Rivera-Morales (high jump), junior Tyler Johnson (hammer), freshman Jovon Cunningham (triple jump) and sophomore Bozidar Antunovic (shot put).
The women's team is led by junior high jumper Brigetta Barrett and junior hurdler Georganne Moline. Other qualifiers are sophomore Elvin Kibet (5,000 and 10,000), junior Jen Bergman (10,000), senior Taylor Bush (hammer) and the 4x400 relay team.
The top top contenders in the men's field are Texas A&M, LSU, Texas, Florida State. Among the Pac-12, USC is ranked No. 9, Oregon is 15th, Stanford is 16th and Arizona State is 17th.
The top-ranked women's teams are LSU, Kansas, Oregon, Texas A&M and Clemson. Stanford is ranked seventh, USC is 14th and Arizona State is 16th.
