Wildcats ranked 12th in AP preseason poll

TUCSON, Ariz. -- For the second straight season and the eighth time in the last decade, the Arizona men's basketball team will open the season with a top-25 ranking in both major polls.
Arizona was ranked 12th in the 2012-13 preseason Associated Press poll released Friday, receiving a total of 902 points. The ranking represents the Wildcats' highest since 2006-07, when they were voted 10th in both the AP poll and the coaches' poll.
UA is ranked 11th in the preseason coaches' poll.
Since the start of the 1987-88 campaign, Arizona has been ranked in 21 of 26 preseason media polls, with the only exceptions being the 1995-96, 2001-02, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. UA was ranked 16th in the preseason AP poll a year ago.
The Wildcats open their 2012-13 exhibition schedule against Humboldt State on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 6:30 p.m. at McKale Center. The regular-season opener against Charleston Southern is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m.
